Almost all computer and smartphone users must have used a presentation program for work or assignments. One of the most widely used presentation software today is Microsoft PowerPoint.
PowerPoint is a presentation or slideshow software that is built into the main Microsoft Office program along with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and other Microsoft Office products. PowerPoint files are often referred to as ppt files, which is the file extension of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Even though ppt files themselves are standard files from Microsoft PowerPoint, other presentation programs such as Google Slides, WPS Office, and Prezi also support these files without any problems.
But there are times when the ppt files or presentation programs that we often use experience some problems, such as hanging, can’t be opened, stopping, or doesn’t work.
For those of you who are experiencing problems with ppt files that cannot be opened, see the causes and solutions to overcome them below.
Causes of PPT can not be opened
A presentation application that cannot read ppt files is probably because the file is corrupted due to an incomplete download or copy of the file. But there are other possibilities that cause the ppt file to not open, you can see the following causes.
- Open the problematic ppt file, but the application – If you are having problems with not just one file but all files, then it is the application that has the problem, not your ppt file. Try fixing the app by updating and clearing app data.
- Corrupted/damaged files – Corrupted ppt files can be caused by many factors, such as incomplete downloads, vxxxs/mxxxxxe axxxxks, as well as unexplained changes to the file structure.
- You don’t have access to open the file – It’s possible that the file has been protected with a password / stronger security protection, so those of you who don’t have authority over the file can’t open it.
- Standard App Error opening file – There is an error in Default App settings on the ppt file, especially when opening the file via WhatsApp. You need to make sure that your ppt file opens in an application that supports the .ppt format.
- The ppt file is too large – If the cellphone feels heavy and even force close when opening a large ppt file (which is more than 50MB in size), then it is possible that the RAM memory is insufficient. This condition is more often experienced by users of low-end class phones with RAM capacities below 3GB.

How to deal with PPT can’t be opened
After knowing the cause points above, just look at some of the tips to overcome them below!
1. Make sure you have installed the presentation application
By default, Android OS doesn’t make Google Slides a ppt viewer app, so you have to install it yourself via Google Play Store. There are lots of ppt file viewer applications that you can use for free, you can check the list here. Some of the applications that you can choose are Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and WPS Office.
2. Update your presentation application
If the ppt file that cannot be opened occurs not only in one file but other files also experience the same thing, it is possible that the ppt file viewer application that you are using has problems or bugs in it. To fix this, try updating the app directly from the Google Play Store. Check out the steps below.
- Open Google Play Store on your Android phone.
- Tap the Account icon at the top » and select Manage Apps & Devices.
- Find and select the application that is having the problem.
- If an update is available, you can tap Update and wait for the update process to finish.
- Finished.
If after the update you still have problems, you should just remove the application and replace it with another ppt file viewer application. Find and download a ppt application that is more stable and optimal than the previous application.
3. Repair the damaged/corrupted PPT file
If you only experience problems with one ppt file, while other ppt files don’t have any problems at all, then it’s possible that the ppt file is corrupted. Here are some things that cause ppt files to be damaged/corrupted.
- Download incomplete/stopped midway.
- Vxxxs/maxxxxe axxxk.
- The file from the first source is already corrupted.
To fix this, try to do repairs with the ppt file repair tool. Officerecovery.com is a web app that provides repair of damaged / corrupt ppt files. Not only ppt files, there are various repair options that you can use to repair other damaged files, such as ppt, doc, wps, xls, and others. If you are interested in trying it, you can follow the steps below.
- Open the online.officerecovery.com/powerpoint/ site via your PC / Android browser.
- Click Choose File to upload the file.
- Then select your PPT file from your PC/Android.
- Click Secure Upload and Repair to start the upload and repair process.
- Click Get the Repaired file to download your file.
- Finished.
*Note: The repair tool ( repair ppt ) is not fully capable of performing a perfect repair. Sometimes parts are truncated or unreadable because the file has been damaged due to an incomplete download. But the hope is that the repair results can be perfect and there are no missing parts of the page/text.
4. Try opening the PPT file on your PC/computer
If the ppt file size is large enough to cause your smartphone to feel heavy and lag, it’s possible that your smartphone’s resources are insufficient to open the file. Considering that the larger the size of the ppt file, the more resources are needed, especially RAM memory. Therefore, it’s best to open the ppt file on a PC / computer device .
Alternatively, you can reduce the size of the ppt file using the ppt file compression tool from Clip Compress. Besides being lighter, this method is also effective in saving storage space so it doesn’t fill up quickly. However, compressing ppt files will cause the quality of images and text to decrease slightly. If you are interested in doing so, see the steps below.
- Open the site clipcompress.com/ppt-compress/ via your PC / Android browser.
- Click Select File to Compress to upload your ppt file.
- Wait a few moments until the upload and compress process is complete.
- If so, click Download to see the results.
- Finished.
